| Awesome. Been playing the demo. Can't wait for release. Hopefully the people at gamers won't be cheap-ass and we will have enough people to play the game. |

Have a private server if you want something to play on.
208.167.242.32
EDIT: Aight the servers for l4d suck ass in terms of configuring them. Basically, a private server can't use a lobby so you can't change the difficulty and such without rcon or admin, or change your char (not as important). It seems that you can vote the difficulty change but it only lasts for that one level.
So I made it a public server. The problem is any tard can just join now. Gah. I setup a steam group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/aualgamers) trying to restrict the servers to members of that steamgroup. PRoblem is, you can't make a steamgroup only lobby. How freaking retarded. So anyways, if you want to use the server put use 'sv_search_key aualgamers' and if the server is empty it'll pop you in.
I can give you guys restart access for the server if you want to 'clear' it out before augamers people join |

| I don't suppose it has any idea of a LAN game, and you couldn't just run it over hamachi or something, huh? |

Yes, but that yields many other problems. Basically I'd like to be able to setup a game with x number of friends and then have random people fill the rest of the slots. I'd also like to be sure that it uses my server to host which I know has good pings for me and my friends.
The problem right now is that many tards aren't using professional hosting and are running servers out of their basements or something. I can't begin to tell you how many servers the lobby has autojoined where everyone gets 200+ ping. It's freaking retarded.
The player matching in the game is a complete disaster and if the game weren't so... perfect... once you get to actually playing I'd have already junked it.
Anyways, valve needs to implement some sort of system where you can reserve a dedicated server for yourself (or a steam group) that whenever you (or someone in your steam group) hosts a lobby, it will automatically use one of those servers. Additionaly, it needs to reserve those servers so that they aren't open to the public.
ATM you have two ways to make a server 'private':
1. You can have a password on the server. This means you have to use 'connect' to join and know the password so no pubbers will ever join to fill empty slots. You also cannot select your character or team. You also cannot choose the difficulty or level from in the game, you must use rcon to modify the server variables or they reset every load.
2. You can make a steam group exclusive server. This has the same problems. You can only join the server directly. The only thing it solves is that you don't need a pw, and only people from your steam group can join (I assume you can invite people outside the group maybe?). You still cannot choose chars, difficulty, etc.
Right now, the only way to use the lobby to setup a game is to make the server public, and use 'sv_search_key' to 'choose' your server. Problem is, since your server is public other tards can use it and it may be in use when you attempt to start the game. Right now I just solve this by restarting the server before I launch the lobby... Sorry for the people using my server but it's valve's fault.

BTW we should play this at gamers Friday |
